For 18 years, He was a senior computer specialist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Houston, Texas. He has been working in Medical Informatics for over 35 years. He holds a masters degree in computer science with a focus on computational linguistics and has worked on knowledge bases and artificial intelligence. He has also worked for such employers as Houston's Methodist Hospital, the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs. In the artificial intelligence field, he has contributed to the [http://suo.ieee.org/ IEEE Standard Upper Ontology working group], written the [http://www.robotwisdom.com/ai/cycfaq.html unofficial FAQ on the Cyc system], and founded the [http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdkb/ Public Domain Knowledge Bank].
