Special Session on Principles of Data Management

Humans increasingly rely on computational support to deal with data as a result of the increase in volume, complexity, and creation speed of data. A variety of proposals have been published to support machine-actionability of data sources and repositories with minimal or no human intervention. One of the best known proposals is the ‘FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship’ published in 2016, but there are many others that were proposed either independently of FAIR or to extend FAIR. There have also been proposals concerned with artificial intelligence and machine learning that are relevant for data.

In this Ontolog Forum Special Session we will give an overview of some of the principles, commandments, best practices, recommendations, etc. that have been proposed for data management and stewardship. The overview will consists of two talks. They will be followed by a discussion.

This special session is intended to help provide some background for the Ontology Summit 2023 which will begin on 18 January 2023.
