David Chasteen

David recently retired from a career as an enterprise information architect at a mid-size health care company to focus his attention on developing education content about semantic technology, tools, and standards. His career was focused on enterprise information management practices where he implemented and maintained the "Enterprise Information Model", "Metadata Management", "Information Analysis", "Information and Data Modeling" practices, and their role in most other information/data aspects of the enterprise.

David's passion however, has long been with the use of "meaning" and its associated "contexts", "naming", "definition", and "relationships" within enterprises (and other endeavors), and ultimately, for the practical use of semantic web technology and standards. He is planning to write education content using modern delivery platforms with narrative, audio, video, and other storytelling methods to bring understanding and mastery for information practitioners. There is a large gap in semantics skills in the industry, but perhaps more importantly, in the understanding of its need and value. Longer term to make work more efficient, less painful, and functionally clean by simply having a sharper and more appropriate toolset for the Information Age.

Semantics are the fundamental first principles for the Information Age. The understanding and techniques are the result of the community of people who have been and are working on defining it, implementing it, and collaborating to make it happen. And I think Ontolog Forum is one of those very important communities.
