Eric Chuk

Eric is a taxonomist for an e-commerce analytics startup, currently assisting a team of data scientists to conduct accurate, high-volume classification of products by using both curation and automation. He has also worked as an editor and content manager for organizations in California and Cambodia. His academic background includes linguistics as well as library/information science. He is interested in ways of organizing data that promote relevance.

More specifically, Eric would like to develop an application for narrative event models to enhance information architecture. Though conventional systems are object-oriented in their design, they do not account for action, causal reasoning, or other non-static phenomenon. An upper ontology reflecting narrative principles could be used to present data in ways that are more significant for memory or learning (in effect, newsworthiness).
