Suhila Sawesi

Suhila Sawesi is a postdoctoral fellow at Tufts University School of Medicine, Department of Public Health and Community Medicine. She also works as an adjunct faculty at Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing, Department of BioHealth Informatics, since 2016. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics from the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis School of Informatics and Computing and gained a distributed minor from Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at the same University. She received her master’s degree in pharmacoepidemiology and her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. Sawesi’s research interests are broadly in Health Information Technology (HIT) as it pertains to improving healthcare outcomes, as well as delivery of care, specifically using Information Technology to enhance patient engagement and improve medication adherence behavior. More precisely, she is interested in knowledge representation using ontology as a representation tool to process massive amounts of heterogeneous data about portions of reality. Her dissertation entitled “An Ontology for Formal Representation of Medication Adherence-related Knowledge: Case Study in Breast Cancer” focused merely on this aspect. Sawesi’s current work focuses on developing an ontological representation of causal-related knowledge.
