Bruce Nordman

Bruce Nordman is a research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. Several hundred people there work on energy use in buildings; Bruce's focus is electronics and networks.

A key aspect of this is interoperability between devices, and between devices and human beings, and such standards inevitably need to be based on data/information models about devices and the physical world. In the area of user interfaces, Bruce did extensive work on power control of electronic devices, which resulted in IEEE 1621. He has also worked in the past on lighting control user interfaces, and will do so again in future. Finally, he has worked on data models for "energy reporting" in IT networks.

One outcome of this was a proposed Simple Universal Device Classification System (UDC).
