Liliana G. Serra

Liliana works as a data librarian for a technology enterprise who develops the Integrated Library System (ILS) SophiA, used in Brazil, Spain, and Latin America. She's been a librarian since 1992, with experience in academic, public, K12, cultural and law libraries. In 2016 started a Ph.D. at Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), in Brazil, on Information Science. The research subject is about using semantic web technologies, such as Linked Data, Linked Open Data, Linked Enterprise Data, and Knowledge Graph, to help the data management of licensed e-book collections. She has a master degree in Information Science from Universidade de São Paulo (USP), in Brazil. Participates in the study group NEWSDA-BR (Núcelo de Estudos em Web Semântica e Dados Abertos - Semantic Web and Open Data Study Center). Nowadays she is a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

From 2010 to 2013 was a professor at a university (UNIFAI, in Brazil), teaching Cataloging and Technology for libraries. She has also coursed in ECM (Enterprise Content Management). She is the author of several works, as papers in journals and conferences, and books chapters. She is the author of "E-books and libraries", published in 2014 by FGV (Brazilian academic publisher). Her second book is expected to be released in 2019.

The main topic of hers researches is about e-books and libraries, discussing business models, reading devices usage, ownership, e-books management collection, cataloging, metadata etc. Linked data and libraries are other topics of interest, like the reuse of authority and bibliographic data and the cooperation between institutions.
