SOCoP Workshop - Roundtable Guidelines

December 3, 2010

Facilitator or Topic Lead Guidelines for Afternoon Roundtable Discussions

Currently we plan on having four Discussions. We will have two Roundtable Sessions each being 45 minutes in length with two discussions in each time block. This is a relatively short period of time but we wanted to give folks the opportunity of joining two discussions.

The Facilitator or topic Lead role is pretty simple. Here are some basic guidelines so that we keep each session similar:

  • Introduce the topic; this should be a short opening about the topic using a Power-Point slide if you wish, but to basically acquaint the participants with the topic.
  • Tell the participants what we hope to get from each session;
    • In addition to stimulating discussion we hope to identify key considerations about the topic;
    • if any further work by SOCoP on this topic would be worthwhile and if so what actions should be pursued
  • Guide the discussion and help keep thing moving, giving everyone a chance to be heard
  • End the Discussion on time and with a short summary
  • Take notes using the report format below and be prepared to say a few words at the Workshop Wrap-up
  • Complete the short Report and get it to Gary by December 17 for posting on the SOCoP wiki
    • Roundtable Summary
    • Title of Roundtable Topic:
    • Facilitators or Topic Leads:
    • Topic Introduction and Issues:
    • Key Discussion Points and Comments:
