Nico Matentzoglu

I am an independent consultant focused on Semantic Technologies, specializing in data integration, standardization, and knowledge graph development. I help organizations apply ontologies and standardized mappings to create sustainable, interoperable data ecosystems that support diverse research and operational needs.

Since completing my PhD in 2015, I’ve contributed to projects such as the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO), Mondo Disease Ontology, Uberon, and knowledge graph initiatives like the Monarch Initiative. My time as a Senior Semantic Web Developer at EBI (2018-2020) gave me experience in developing high-impact biomedical data solutions. As an independent consultant, I’ve worked with both academic and industry clients. I am also an active member of the OBO community, contributing to ontology development and fostering community-driven ontology interoperability and knowledge sharing.

Nico was one of the presenters at the Ontology Summit 2023 session on OBO Dashboards https://ontologforum.com/index.php/ConferenceCall_2023_02_15

I’ve developed and contributed to tools like the Simple Standard for Sharing Ontological Mappings (SSSOM), the Ontology Development Kit (ODK), and OBO Academy, helping organizations improve their semantic frameworks and data workflows.
