OpenOntologyRepository: OOR Research Activity

At the Ontology Summit 2008, a consensus was reached on a vision of an infrastructure for the storage, retrieval and management of ontologies in a federated open ontology repository (OOR). Since its conception, several key OpenOntologyRepository_ResearchIssues have been identified which will contribute to the development of OOR. During the final of three conference calls on this topic, panelists presented the research which is currently underway.

The purpose of this page is to identify which initiatives are being taken on by which members and groups of the OOR community. For further information on relevant research topics, please see the OpenOntologyRepository_ResearchIssues and OpenOntologyRepository_Requirement pages.

Current Research Activity

(Please be sure to set up a page for your respective projects on the Wiki)

  • "BioPortal-OOR" by NCBO-MarkMusen et al. in collaboration with the OOR project contributors - ref. ConferenceCall_2009_07_16 & ConferenceCall_2009_07_30
  • "COLORE: Common Logic Ontology Repository" by Michael Grüninger - Abstract: The purpose and architecture of COLORE are described.
  • "OOR for Public Sector Use" by Elisa Kendall - Abstract: Requirements for OOR for use in the public sector, with emphasis on metadata requirements and related research questions, are identified.
  • "Ontology Repositories: Discussions and Perspectives" by Mathieu Daquin - Abstract: Besides the OOR initiatives, many different systems have been developed that provide ontology repository facilities. While they have a lot in common, many elements and features seems to be missing, and I will introduce a few of them (support in finding suitable ontologies, relations between ontologies, interoperability between systems), hoping to generate discussions on the current research and development challenges in the area of ontology repositories.
