Discussion

[12:30] Kurt Conrad: maturity models:

  • start w/ terminology
  • add relationships/taxonomies
  • start to formalize semantics
  • logical formalization

[12:31] Kurt Conrad: referencing vs creating standardized concepts

[12:34] Ravi Sharma: tool reasoners and results

[12:37] Robert Rovetto: http://ontolog.cim3.net/file/work/OntologySummit2011/reference/ontologyMaturityModel-obrst-2009.pdf

[12:50] Kurt Conrad: semantic formalization involves a range of approaches, from simple to complex characterization frameworks

[12:54] Gary Berg-Cross: Here is what I wrote in Section 4 that touches on funding and maturity - "Within the engineering lifecycle adequate tool development and maintenance is still needed over time. This reflects in part a prototype problem as argued by Vigo, Matentzoglu, Jay & Stevens (2019). Too many ontology authoring tools remain prototypes that are not widely used by groups beyond a narrow domain scope. Tool maturation requires funding such as was the case for Protégé tooling."

[12:55] Kurt Conrad: another dimension of "maturity": personal exploration or management support and funding

[12:58] Robert Rovetto: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/The-four-phases-of-the-ontology-maturing-process-model_fig1_221467162

[12:59] Ravi Sharma: So we need to say something about maturity and Ram and Kurt and I will provide some inputs, Robert will add to lists and other comments, Gary said he will review some sections.

[13:00] Robert Rovetto: https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is-there-a-maturity-model-for-ontologies

[13:02] Ravi Sharma: Ken on progressions- phased projects, complexity and need for help?
