- Candidate Sep. 2005 session(s) - we could probably do either one or both:
- Jon Bosak of Sun on OASIS Process - suggested (KurtConrad / SusanTurnbull) at our 2005.03.03 Planning Session - Susan: the 2005.09.23 CEW on implication on governance ... would be ideal. [Kurt will follow up with Jon and Susan]
- possibility of this rolling into a joint SICoP or CEW-multiple CoP Best Practice event (suggested: Susan Turnbull / 2005.03.03)
- BillMcCarthy suggested John Sowa (try, either Sep. 1 or 6, 2005) - Bill will write John about this
- Jon Bosak of Sun on OASIS Process - suggested (KurtConrad / SusanTurnbull) at our 2005.03.03 Planning Session - Susan: the 2005.09.23 CEW on implication on governance ... would be ideal. [Kurt will follow up with Jon and Susan]
- future candidates speakers:
- Doug Lenat on the Cyc project (suggested by PeterYim)
- Nicola Guarino on DOLCE, possibly also BillAnderson or Chris Welty (suggested by Peter P. Yim & PatCassidy)
- LarryReeker of NIST (suggested by SusanTurnbull)
- SimonBuckinghamShum of the Compendium Institute ( ? ; ref. post from ScottLHolmes & PeterYim's reponse)
- other suggestions:
- a panel with speaker representating: SUMO, OpenCyc Upper Ontology, DOLCE, ... (suggested by PeterYim)
- possibly teaming up with SICoP and their CUO-WG; after independent sessions on Cyc and DOLCE
- Monica: suggest inviting someone from the [regrep] group
- Rex suggsted we should also invite UDDI and XMDR people, and possibly to have all three parties (regrep, uddi & xmdr) on a panel
- Jim Spohrer from IBM Almaden Services Research (further to the 2005.06.30 discussion)
- Rex suggestion: Professor Asuman Dogac from Middle East Technical University (Ankhara, Turkey) on Healthcare Ontologies in ebXML Web Services under their Artemis Project
- Professor Dogac's work has also been previous recommended by Brand Niemann - see: http://colab.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ExpeditionWorkshop/TowardCoherenceInKnowledgeThroughAllThingsOntological_MakingSenseTogether_2004_12_09#nid6NZ
- Peter also suggested that we should invite Dieter Fensel to talk to us some time
- a panel with speaker representating: SUMO, OpenCyc Upper Ontology, DOLCE, ... (suggested by PeterYim)
- Scheduled Discussions for the next 2 months
- David Whitten: maybe we should designate a moderator, and then coordinate the event from there, in a fashion similar to speaker events.
- more work/discussion on OWL
- Adam: need OWL & SWRL for OWL ontologies to really be useful
- Nicolas Rouquette -- topics lined up?
- Rex: possibility of working with Duane on a follow-up
- WSMO (Web Service Modeling Ontology), and possibly also, SWSF (Semantic Web Services Framework) - as proposed by Duane Nickull / Nicolas Rouquette / Peter Brown - ref. thread that started with http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum//ontolog-forum/2005-06/msg00017.html
- candidate panelists:
- John Domingue of the Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University in the UK, who presented in Innsbruck - suggested by Peter Brown - http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum//ontolog-forum/2005-06/msg00039.html
- reference: John Domingue's slides from the presentation at the recent W3C workshop on frameworks for semantics in web services, available at: http://www.w3.org/2005/04/FSWS/Submissions/1/wsmo_v10.pdf
- WSMO WG website - http://www.wsmo.org
- SDK cluster - 3 fairly large EU-based project
- currently lots of funding in Europe for semantic web work (and funding in US has just ended), therefore expecting new work to come from Europe
- three different viewpoints now - OWL/S, SWSI - FLOWS, and WSMO viewpoints - probably a bit early to talk about standardization
- let's work with John Domingue toward a Oct 2005 panel discussion, with the 3 above viewpoints represented
- John: will do ... but don't expect consensus at the end of the session ... (we understand)
- ref. our 2005.06.30 discussion session, Michael Grüninger (who has been working on FLOWS and SWSF) indicated that this will be a session he will like to participate in too.
- candidate panelists:
- no discussion session for July 2005
- August 25, 2005 discussion session - moderator: Rex Brooks - subject: Healthcare Informatics
- candidate panelists: Bob Smith, Mark Musen, ... people from within and without the community
- Upcoming Events of interest
- Sep. 14, 2005 - 2nd DRM Public Forum (Washington DC) (Rex, Peter)
- Sep. 12~16, 2005 - UN/CEFACT Forum - (Lyon, France) (Anders, Bill)
5) Communications, logistics, & work protocols issues
- Regular call time revisited: - will discuss in the next planning session
- open discussion in progress (comments invited); will deliberate after end June 2005 (allowing W3C SWBPD to decide on their regular call time first.
- Michael Grüninger also indicated last week (during the 2005.06.30 session) that our Thurday call time conflicts with that of the SWSF WG call schedule too.
6) Follow-ups from previous calls
- Note of thanks to a great session last week -- it's another ground-breaking event for Ontolog
- What worked well?
- we picked a right topic
- current, timeliness
- hot, relevant
- appropriate for discussion, significantly immature
- prospect of competing expert viewpoint
- we were able to put this together quickly
- stakeholders find value in an inexpensive CoP setting (compared to peer-reviewed publication and conference)
- we picked a right topic
- What can be improved?
- Bill: would be nice if we have some visibility on who wanted to speak, queue up questions, etc.
- Peter: we have a space on the wiki for it ... but it's more the culture than the tool
- Bill: would be nice if we have some visibility on who wanted to speak, queue up questions, etc.
- follow-ups with the POSE / IMS people?
- consensus that we stay put, but will generally be receptive to collaborate, either individually or collectively
