6) Follow-ups from previous calls

  • postmortem on last week's panel discussion -
    • great choice of speakers
    • coming in from a different perspective was great ... even the term "Ontology" meant something else (although it would have helped if everyone had agreed to the meaning of, at least, this one term!)
    • Atilla: maybe less speakers, more discussion ... appreciations to the organizers of this and other Ontolog events.
    • Kurt: need to try to engage participants into useful and active discussion
    • Peter: would love to see loose-ends being tied down slightly earlier (than the last minute)

  • status of NHIN-RFI & Health-Ont project work

8) This week's discussion:

  • event calendar planning for Q1/Q2-2007
  • Steve / Leo / Peter: ideas for our next NIST-Ontolog joint event during the NIST Interoperability Week, April 2007
  • Kurt: continuation of community planning
    • Kurt: think of doing face-to-face as a member get together by piggy-begging on other events, e.g. we've be doing this with the Protege conference, how about the Semantic Technology conference.
      • Kurt will champion this for the upcoming Semantic Technology conference (May 20~24, 2007, San Jose, CA, USA)
  • a retrospect on the year 2006 for Ontolog, and discussion on what else would be interesting to do in 2007
    • Doug Holmes suggested that we (Ontolog) should do something with W3C, and he will put that on the table at the W3C meetings that he will go to.
    • Doug / Peter / Atilla / Kurt: recognizing that one strength of Ontolog is that we have a free and open soapbox for the various groups in the community that tends to talk pass pne another:
      • formal ontologists
      • semantic web folks
      • taxonomists
      • the folksonomy / web2.0 people
      • data modeling / applications development / database folks
      • along with standards developers, library scientists and knowledge managers
