- will need to follow-up with BillMcCarthy & Anders Tell
- Kurt: suggest we schedule a UN/CEFACT-ONTOLOG joint teleconference (hopefully on a Thursday) so that we can do a focused discussion
- Should we have a joint presence at OIS2006? - OIS2006: 1st International Workshop on Ontologizing Industrial Standards

- November 6-9, 2006 - Tucson, Arizona, USA - colocated with the 25th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER2006)
- we should at least make Ontolog's presence known
- Let's ping York Sure (who's on their program committee) about it when he speaks on 8/17 -- we seem to have missed that (no one seems to have brought this up at the York Sure session)
7) Current Project Status Report
- Status CctRepresentation and UblOntology project work

8) Key Issues discussion:
- The key agenda items for this call will be to -
- conduct our 'postmortem' on the "OntologizingOntolog"
series (ref: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ConferenceCall_2006_08_31#nidPYA) ... and,

- Ref: Ontologizing Ontolog, OntologTaxoThesaurus & OntologWorkshop_July_2006 for more details
- Discussion:
- Pat Heinig will address "Salient Aspects and important Push Off Points" - see slides
- input from Peter P. Yim:
- two implementations of interest:
- the ONTOWORLD Upcoing Event Calendar - implemented on the SemanticMediaWiki - see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?RelevantEventsOfInterest#nidQ5E
- JimDisbrow's "Energy Community" body of knowledge - implemented on the VK semantic wiki - click on "Energy Community" at: http://vkwiki.visualknowledge.com/
- where do we go from here ... ?
- two implementations of interest:
- input from Bob Smith:
- Bob Smith: my sense is that Denise broke important ground in conceptualizing a repeatable process, or the 7-Step approach backed by powerful tools and by opportunity for intense social interaction at important points in the process.
- It seems to complement York Sure's DILIGENT PROCESS and puts a useful pragmatic dimension for those thinking about making a committment to building Bottom-Up Top Down Taxo-Thesaurus Ontologies.
- In addition, the project also stimulated re-thinking about several tools I have encountered over the last few years, and I had some success in constructing taxonomies and conceptual "maps" from large and medium sized collections of documents which allowed links into specific paragraphs of indexed documents in the collection.
- Bob: our original goal was to improve SEARCH access to the body of knowledge. The following is the general outline of my revised goals and revised "pattern trees" for discussion -
- Discussion (cont'd)
- Denise: how did the F2F workshop go?
- Kurt: we have the audio recording captured, still need post processing before we can post them
- Rex: criteria - high / medium / low prioritization made ... Kurt will document (Peter: we've also got the whiteboard captured on pictures too!)
- Denise: will look forward to see them.
- Denise: I can take Bob's new tree structure as acets, and build them into profile(s) ... we should also go back to Lisa's suggested attribute
- Denise & Peter: suggest we call for a developer with Lucene (an open source search engine) experience to join us in the project
- Peter: ref. the SemanticMediaWiki effort (e.g. ref. the Calendar example mentioned above), we could look towards using the extended semantic capabilities offered there.
- Peter: we need to better define our deliverables ... the current discussion is not granular enough yet. We need more specific use case scenarios, then properly defined deliverables ... we will then be in a position to identify gaps (resource, skillset, ...) that we would need to fill.
- Pat / Rex: synergies with others collegial institutions should be pursued - NIST, NCOR, SICoP, FEA-DRM, ...
- Jim: I'm wrestling with the same sort of issues building the "energy community", where I'm using Enegergy as the unifying concept - take a look, by clicking on "Energy Community" at: http://vkwiki.visualknowledge.com/
- would love to see some example of rdf triples implementation (now working with the ontology editing tools allowed in the vk wiki)
- Bob / Doug / Peter: all suggested Jim to look at what Protege has to offer now - see http://protege.stanford.edu & http://protege.cim3.net/wiki
- would love to see some example of rdf triples implementation (now working with the ontology editing tools allowed in the vk wiki)
- Denise: how did the F2F workshop go?
9) New project proposals
10) Sponsorship and funding
11) Other business
12) Next meeting date and adjourn
- Our next meeting/call will be next Thu 2006.09.14 - Professor Alan Rector (from University of Manchester, UK) will be our invited speaker, giving his talk on "Terminologies and Ontologies: What are they for? What would it mean to QA an ontology?" - details at: ConferenceCall_2006_09_14 ... 'see' you all then!
