3) Roll-call of participants

4) Upcoming meeting & event schedule (near future)

  • Scheduled Ontolog Events (already on the calendar):
    • 2007_11_08 - Thursday: NASA-Ontolog-KMWG: Ontology in Knowledge Management & Decision Support (OKMDS) mini-series - Launch Event - ConferenceCall_2007_11_08
    • No meeting on Thu 2007.11.22 - Thanksgiving Day in the USA

5) Communications, logistics, & work protocols issues

  • Steve: suggest we have a visual calendar too
    • Peter: google calendar is a candidate
  • Kurt will edit the Meetings Calls page:
    • add dates at the front of each bullet
    • list all Thursdays, and mark it as "open" if the date does not already have an event scheduled
  • Consensus:
    • only ongoing series organizers will be in positions to firm up dates for events on the Meetings Calls page (essentially referring to the Thursday event slots)
    • the series' should have a pre-agreed frequency of their events already sanctioned by the planning team (i.e. active members who join in at the "operations planning and review" meetings)
    • dates may be taken up on a first-come-first served basis
    • for major events (like ontology summit), organizers should "block off" the date(s) even when it is not totally firmed up
    • organizers may use the term "proposed" and "tentative," as appropriate
    • a more rigorous policy will be developed if we run into too many conflicts

6) Follow-ups from previous calls

7) Current Project Status Report -- will probably skip this regular item

  • Current Project Status Review:
  • Status CctRepresentation and UblOntology project work.
  • status of the ONION project startup.
  • UBL liaison report
  • SICoP / ONTAC liaison report
  • NCOR liaison report
  • Planning team report -- see below

8) Key Issues discussion:

  • We need to work out scheduling of some of the

impending Ontolog programs, which include (but are not limited to):

    • (i) the ongoing "Database & Ontology" series,
    • (ii) the NASA-Ontolog "Ontology in Knowledge Management & Decision

Support" mini-series that is just about to start,

  • Input (we've got to work with):
    • The DatabaseAndOntology mini-series used to select their dates from the first half of the month, and the OntologyMeasurementEvaluation mini-series the 2nd half of the month, when they were running concurrently
    • 2007.10.21 / BillMcCarthy-MatthewWest-PeterYim exchange -
      • (a) ... scrubbing the originally planned 2007.11.29 BillMcCarthy - REA / database talk
      • (b) ... A talk on "An integration of the United Nations UMM work with the ontological specification of Open-EDI -- 15944-4 (based on the REA ontology)" -- March or April 2008 by BillMcCarthy
      • (c) ... A Panel Discussion on "financial ontology and interoperability (vis-a-vis aligning REA and XBRL)" -- late May or early June 2008 organized/moderated by BillMcCarthy
    • 2007.11.01 - John Bateman: In principle we are still a bit flexible: any of the dates 2008.01.31, 2008.02.21, 2008.02.28 would be fine at present. ... Preliminary Title: "Ontology Structuring Mechanisms and Ontological Modularity" - Peter firmed up the 2008.01.31 for this
    • Steve Ray: NIST-Ontolog "Ontology Summit 2008" targeting week of 2008.03.10 (backup week is that of 2008.03.31) - Steve already marked it as tentative on the Meetings Calls page - see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?MeetingsCalls#nid15N1
    • Rex Brooks: proposing a talk on 2008.01.17 by Marc Wine et al. - Rex will firm up this date
  • Discussion:
    • Matthew: the DatabaseAndOntology may come to a natural closure ... and maybe coming back to it in a year or two when things have progressed in this domain
    • Peter: I would still like to hear from Susie Stephens, if we could invite her
    • we could also review the series charter and see if there are gaps we might want to fill.

10) Sponsorship and funding -- will probably skip this regular item

11) Other business.

12) Next meeting date and adjourn

  • Our next meeting/call will be the Thu 2007.11.08 OKMDS mini-series Launch Event. Details at ConferenceCall_2007_11_08 ... talk to you then!
