Ontology Summit 2008 - Topic Champions Meeting - Wed 2008-03-05

The key purpose of this meeting is to discuss means to invigorate discourse through discussion threads and to connect the work of the Champions with the face-to-face program planning and resulting communique.

As Champions, we need to assure that the community can effectively explore, debate, deliberate and capture that content through our online discourse, between the Feb-27 Launch Event and the Apr-28 & 29 (2008) face-to-face workshop.

  • 'role of champion' defined - as facilitators - ... (Michelle pls add your definition back in)
  • raising [ontology-summit] traffic
    • currently, 48 people are subscribed (about 1/10 the size of the [ontolog-forum] list
    • suggestion: champions to initiate their thread(s) and facilitate the discussion (now that the facilitation role is clear)
    • Fabian: can put up parts of a paper they are working on at NIST to help get the discussion going
    • we'll keep the brackets (tagging the subject line properly)
    • champions to help keep the subject line in sync with the content as best they can (although the burden is on the poster.)
    • a paper (either a one page strawman or a long term journal paper draft) from each of the thread champion(s) could be a good way to get some discussion going

  • candidates for the ontology-of-ontology panel session - April-10
    • Pat Hayes to chair
    • Peter Haase (OMV) folks; Michael Grüninger on Ontology Summit 2007 framework; Natasha Noy; (W3C work on how the semantic web should be organized; OWL 1.1 folks?) possibly Bijan Parsia, Ian Horrick, Peter Schneider; Topic Map folks - Ann Wrightson, SteveNewcomb, Jack Park, Sam Hunting, Michel Biezunski ... (Michelle) ; David Booth or Jeremy Carroll (HP Labs, Bristol, UK) (Pat)
    • Pat, Michelle and Peter will pull this together offline and report back to the team

  • if editors of the wiki need to copy another page as a template, please strip the purple numbers or ping Peter offline to get access to the tool (that would automatically strip the PurpleNumbers)

  • each champion team to present a short plug on their thread at the next committee call
  • each thread champion team to have their strawman page up on their wiki "thread summary" page and a post (as an opening statement) to the [ontology-summit] mailing list
    • hopefully ready by the content committee meeting next Monday 3/10 or within a week of that
