Agenda Ideas
(please insert items you would like to see covered here)
- help getting the summit dialog from more community segments (other than that for the formal ontologists) going
- coordinate the synthesis of the "Ontology Summit 2007" virtual discourse
- figure out how best to summarize the dialog into a collaborative write-up, and eventually our written communique
- wiki edit tutorial and sharing best practices (after the first 1-hour call proper)
- ...
Agenda & Proceedings
We will be spending the first hour of the call in our regular meeting agenda items (including the focused discussion described above), and use an (optional) additional hour on wiki editing tutorial and sharing of best practices.
1) Welcome & confirmation of agenda
2) Appointment of secretary to take minutes
- Peter P. Yim volunteered
3) Roll-call of participants
- see above
4) Focused Discussions:
- Ontology Summit 2007 - what? and what for? (question Olivier Bodenreider wants us to answer)
- Steve Ray: we want to keep focus on our Summit Objectives
- let's make sure we are clear about it now
- TomGruber's talk: ConferenceCall_2007_03_01 will be throwing some light on this too
- help getting the summit dialog from more community segments (other than that for the formal ontologists) going
- coordinate the synthesis of the "Ontology Summit 2007" virtual discourse
- volunteer editors: Charles Turnitsa, Kurt Conrad, Ken Baclawski, Bob Smith ...
- Steve: move the links to the pertinent wiki pages to a more conspicuous position
- we should move the summit dialog back to [ontology-summit] rather than [ontolog-forum]
- use [ontolog-forum] for formal ontology conversations and the [ontology-summit] to achieve our Ontology Summit 2007 objectives
- figure out how best to summarize the dialog into a collaborative write-up, and eventually our written communique
- Peter: check out OntologySummit2007_Process
- in particular, I propose we use: OntologySummit2007_Process/Draft2 as a strawman, and adopt that or a variation of it
- Alan Bond: breaking it down to 3 components for an ontology (roughly: the community, the language and the application) - Alan will make a post to the [ontology-summit] list - done: see Alan's post on 2007.02.16
- Leo Obrst: we should post to other community list and advertise this effort
- Tom Gruber: analogy with the network stack (levels)
- Leo Obrst: that's our framework ... and proposed typology objective
- Steve: remember to provide a simplistic entry point
- go for a function (or value) oriented framework
- Leo Obrst: we want to capture the 'value' (or perceived value) of what each of these community's 'ontologies' are bring to the table
- capture that the anecdotal input (maybe within survey)
- Alan Bond: try also capturing 'issues' as well
- Tom Gruber: specific problems they need help with
- therefore survey should also include each constituencies 'value' and 'issues' input [attn: Peter]
- Steve Ray: I wasn't sure earlier if we wanted to ask people for artifacts, but I agree now it would be a good things
5) Any other business
- doing anything with the "Semantic Technology Conference"?
- Ontolog will stay at arms length
- Kurt will get Tony to talk to Peter about this
6) Next meeting date and adjourn
- Our next meeting/call will be the Thu 2007.02.22, with the 4th OntologyMeasurementEvaluation mini-series Event - refer to details at: ConferenceCall_2007_02_22 ... talk to you then!
- this call session adjourned 11:40 am PST
7) Getting volunteered editors sand those who will be posting to the wiki to get familiar with the Ontolog collaborative work environment (ONTOLOG-cwe)
this will be conducted in the (optional) extended hour; after the first (regular) meeting hour
Attendee: Charles Turnitsa, Kathy Lesh, Duane Nickull, Peter P. Yim
- some hints:
- start with reading through this one paragraph from beginning to end.
- use people's WikiWord names
- always provide links to source material (like pointing people to particular paragraphs in the e-mail archive)
- always consult the Page Index before creating new pages
- or shall we even centralize new page naming?
- Have conspicuous links (like at the very top) to help people navigate to the Ontology Summit 2007 home and parent pages, when on a child page, like when is done at the top of this page
- leave Purple Numbers alone at the end of the line, with a space in front of it
- when moving content from one page to another, always remove the purple numbers (and let the system regenerate it)
- there is a tool that will help us do it easily - see: http://community.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?CweAdmin/RemovingPurpleNumbers
- setting up for connectivity for uploading to the shared-file workspace (at the WebDAV server)
- see: http://community.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?FileWorkspaceAccess
- in particular, if you are working from a Windows XP machine, check out: http://community.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?FileWorkspaceAccess#nidAHZ
- one should change the network location ("ontolog" rather than "colab") to: "http://ontolog.cim3.net/work/" and use the [ontolog-member / ontology] authentication pair
- in particular, if you are working from a Windows XP machine, check out: http://community.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?FileWorkspaceAccess#nidAHZ
- see: http://community.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?FileWorkspaceAccess
- make sure we follow the Ontolog file-naming convention, when putting files into the shared-file workspace - see: http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-forum/2004-02/msg00029.html
- a good reference: http://community.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?CweSystemWalkThrough#nidAIW
