Agenda & Proceedings
Monday, April 28
- 8:30 Introductions and networking
- 9:15 State of the Art - chair: Frank Olken
- Remarks from the chair: This session shall comprise a 45 min. presentation and 30 minutes open discussion. The talk will be organized in terms of various technological facets of ontology repositories, rather than by examples. Topics will include:
-
- Informal vs. Formal Ontologies
- Macro-level issues (collections of ontologies)
- Micro-level issues (storage, querying, etc. of individual ontologies)
- Ontology Acquisition (manual, spidering, etc.)
- Ontology knowledge representation: (frames, graphs(RDF), logics (DL, FOL))
- RDF Triple / Quad Stores
- Mappings among Ontologies
- Supporting tools: UI, editors, browsers, curation tools, ...
- 10:30 Break
- 11:00 Repository Architecture - co-chair: Michelle Raymond & Ravi Sharma
- Remarks from the chair: This 'part one' session shall comprise of a 10 minute summary, 20 minutes of topic area overviews and a 30 minute discussion period.
- The summary will overview the discussions and background materials provided by the community.
- The topic area overviews will succinctly cover specific areas of the intellectual space pertaining to Open Ontology Repository Architectures.
- The discussion will be focused around the topic areas presented.
- 12:00 Lunch
- 1:15 Repository Architecture (continued) .. [ audio ] (1:08:27)
- Remarks from the chair: This 'part two' session shall comprise of a short pre-lunch discussion recap, discussion of relevant issues that will be focused around the architecture topics noted for the communique.
- 2:15 Quality and Gatekeeping - co-chair: Barry Smith & Fabian Neuhaus
- Remarks from the chair: This session will start with a 10 minutes summary of the results of our previous results. We will spend the rest of the time in discussion. In particular we have to resolve the following issues: Are the ontologies in the repository required to be open? And if so, what exactly does 'open' mean in the case of ontologies? Another set of questions is linked to the topic of requiring the ontologies in the OOR to meet certain quality standards.
- 3:30 Break
- 4:00 Ontology Of Ontologies - co-chair: Michael Grüninger & Pat Hayes (in absentia)
- Remarks from the chair: This session will start with a 5~10 minute brief, and go straight into discussion. Since logical relationships are well-understood and OMV is a strong candidate for engineering metadata,
we want to spend most of the time of the session in brainstorming mode, with the focus on identifying scenarios and examples of ontologies that we can use to test the adequacy of the proposed ontology metadata.
