3. Status Review and Discussion:
- Urgent issues:
- none
- Logistics and Communications
- populate - OOR/ActiveMemberContribution
- Review of our priority list:
- 1. continue to push OOR development and get more contributors
- 2. set up policies and process and policies for contributing to OOR work
- build out "gatekeeping" and move from just having an OOR-sandbox to having available instances of an OOR-sandbox and an OOR-production
- 3. systematically solicit content contributions
- 4. get the work funded
- 5. regularly review requirements and existing standards to make sure we are on track
- 6. possibility of doing an OOR presentation at the Semantic Technology Conference (21~25-Jin-2010, San Francisco, CA, USA.)
- Key items for discussion at this call:
- planning for upcoming virtual panel sessions on (i) Content, and (ii)Use Cases
- OOR-sandbox installation & usage progress review
- start thinking about driving the "content" front
- progress review on planned OOR-related events
- reports on member activities that are OOR-related
... items below are from the previous call(s), and will be updated as we progressed on this meeting.
- OOR-sandbox installation progress review
- <oor-01f.cim3.net> with the updated version of BioPortal - http://oor-01f.cim3.net/ [ existing instance is at: http://oor-01.cim3.net/ ]
- on re-deployment, we should have the "OOR-sandbox" label and the licensing correct
- Tejas advised that the new install way be up later today
- Peter: when everyone is comfortable with the new install, we will remap the DNS to call that <oor-01.cim3.net> so the url would stay the same as before.
- 2010.01.08: discussion: migrating existing content: from oor-01 to oor-01f and then retiring the "old" sandbox
- target - upload ontologies to the new sandbox oor-01f within the next week, by 2010.01.15 [attn: Ken & Mike c/o Dan & Jim]
- we'll spend the following week evaluating and working on retiring the "old" sandbox (and making the new one <oor-01> officially -- 2010.01.22: not yet! (see below)
- KenBaclawski's team ran into ontology upload issues earlier, which has since been resolved - ref. http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/oor-dev/2010-01/msg00002.html
- Ken / Peter: for [oor-01f] the upload limit is increased (from 20MB) to 100MB
- Ken: still have to think of how to deal with huge ontologies ... I have one (from NCBI) that is 20GB
- Ken: a bunch of OOR-related activities going on
- Tejas Parikh and Sumit Purohit are installing and administering the OOR sandbox and other OOR installations.
- Yavuz Eren is posting ontologies to the sandbox and developing use cases.
- Two students are developing gatekeeping and provenance software.
- Students in my software engineering class will have assignments related to OOR. These will include use cases, system architecture and design. There are over 40 students registered in the course.
- All: encourage student to use this CWE (mailing list & wiki) so members of this team can interact with them
- Mike Dean ran into some upload errors ... he'll post the questions to Paul Alexander on the [oor-dev] list
- after the upload issues are rectified, Mike Dean will proceed to do some testing on mapping too (and when that passes, we'll consider retiring the oor-01 sandbox again, say, at the next call.
- target - upload ontologies to the new sandbox oor-01f within the next week, by 2010.01.15 [attn: Ken & Mike c/o Dan & Jim]
- Dan reports that their install of the BioPortal instance is working well and they are working on federation now
- thinking of one-way federation for now (maybe two-way later)
- separate table (for now) to capture metadata for federation
- using separate repository for the code now (probably will consider getting back to previously arranged repository arrangements - when we agreed to branch from the BioPortal svn repository)
- Bart: I'll be installing an instance next week
- OOR discussion
- OOR-sandbox vs OOR-production - the latter still needs, at least, the implementation of gatekeeping (as discussed during OntologySummit2008)
- Ken: one of my students is looking into the "gatekeeping" aspect
- Peter / Mike: good time to plan on a call with all the developers, maybe dedicate one of the upcoming Friday OOR calls for that
- tentatively, Fri 19-Feb-2010 Mike Dean will chair
- Peter to contact NCBO folks
- Mike (or designate) to invite others
- progress review on planned OOR-related events
- Candidates Events ... consider:
- (Soliciting) Content - candidate co-champions: Pat Cassidy (Leo will contact - confirmed), Denise Bedford (Peter to contact - confirmed), Aldo Gangemi (Michael will contact)
- Use Cases Panel-2 - candidate co-champion: Ken, K Goodier (Ken will contact), Todd Schneider
- will defer discussion the next call
- possibly shortly after the summit
- Michael suggest that we can make it "more friendly" for content people to use the OOR (by having members of this OOR team provide help and support)
- possibility of doing an OOR presentation at the Semantic Technology Conference (21~25-Jun-2010, San Francisco, CA, USA.)
- Mike: proposal due next Monday; Mike will draft
- Peter is local, and could be there
- Discussion / 2009.12.11: Ontology Summit 2010 launched on 2009.12.10 (yesterday)
- (from previous meeting discussions:) what role can OOR (would want to) play?
- Mike: "OOR" as a means/tool to educate
- Mike: if outreach and "educating the public" is part of the agenda, the folks who used to be on W3C's Best Practices and Deployment Working Group and Education and Outreach Interest Group will be good candidates to engage
- Peter / 2009.12.11: Discourse to be in 3 Tracks: Content, Quality, Professional-Context ... and each further broken down into "present" and "future" outlooks
- Discussion:
- we can suggest that everything (for the summit) should be ontology based, and then offer the OOR-sandbox to be a platform used by the summit participants
- we could offer content (course module and/or training material) on ontology repositories and registries
- Peter (2010.01.08): message delivered to the Ontology Summit 2010 organizing committee - the OOR initiative be enlisted as a "co-sponsor" for the event
- (from previous meeting discussions:) what role can OOR (would want to) play?
- reports on member activities that are OOR-related - see above
- Funding and proposals ... (no update)
- ... previously,
- Ken Baclawski submitted an proposal to STCI, jointly with Peter P. Yim and MikeDean.
- Ken: our STCI proposal seems to have been declined by NSF; NEU has been re-organizing the Tech Transfer office, so the people handling our submission is not available any more
- Ken will try to call the NSF program officer to find out
- Ken: our STCI proposal seems to have been declined by NSF; NEU has been re-organizing the Tech Transfer office, so the people handling our submission is not available any more
